a particular night.
i failed to remember.
i unfurled the flag.
turned to the west.

last night there was a storm,
i abandoned the octopus.
it is still on the truck bed, but it is not the same anymore.
i turned my back to the sea.
i stood facing the road.
but my feet as if by themselves took a step
on the edge of the road.

i delayed the dawn.
i plunged into the woods.
i returned into the center of the night.

this road is rarely traveled
i have to manage some memories.
forget more than i remember
to reach the end of the woods.

redwood trees press around us.
above the stars are cold.
the river is moaning.
the sky is silent and vast.
